 | Michael D. Buckner, PhD.
Dr. Buckner has been an innovator and entrepeneur in several enterprises. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Chicago, 1975, and prior to the founding of Personal Computer Power Center, he developed the distinguished Philosophy and Medicine Program at New York University's School of Medicine in 1976. In 1980, he co-authored one of the first textbooks for Bioethics published by MIT Press.
Dr. Buckner then tackled the growing computer industry and established his first enterprise in 1983. That original retail enterprise brought the benefits of word processing and desktop publishing to many of New York's leading writers and academics. As networking became a reality on the PC platform, Michael was an original Netware specialist and his firm assisted in developing cost effective networks for clients ranging from NYU departments to New York's most pretigious restaurants, literary journals, and boutique law firms. As a teacher and lecturer he guided the first generation of conversion from dedicated and mainframe desktop publishing systems to the more cost effective PC platforms. Michael created and ran classes for such organizations as Institutional Investor Publications, NYU, and the Discovery Center of New York. They were one of the first sites in New York to offer courses on the first version of Word Perfect, Microsoft Word, Wordstar, Visical, Lotus 123, and Excel. Personal Computer Power Center was founded with Wanda Buckner in 1980 to focus exclusively on business networks utilizing PC technology. In1994, Personal Computer Power Center began to assume the responsibilities for outsourcing network administration and strategic consulting for several New York non-profit affordable housing foundations. Today this small firm is responsible for the administration and support of nearly 300 users and more than 40 servers at 20 sites.
